Cottage Collective is a group of 7 artists/printmakers who I grouped together. We travelled together to Ireland to make work for a week. The story was followed by the Sunday Times and appeared in the home section in the summer of 2011. I was interested in the old idea of the patron and the artist and wanted to recreate this so the patron, my father, paid and commissioned all the artists, bar me, to paint and draw and make prints of the area so that the art in his house would be created and inspired by the surrounding mountains and fields.
I wrote a brief and approached young London based artists, they submitted plans and concepts and together with a handmade pinhole camera, a makeshift printing press (made from standing and rocking on various slabs of stone) we spent a week in the mountains at one with nature. For a bunch of kids from the smoke it was a well deserved break from the hubbub of the city. I hope to do this again soon with a few more hands on deck to help recruit some people.
